The man who took the Newport Festival by storm back in the day and influenced....well, everyone, passed on yesterday. RIP. nv
I
think Donovan picked up some of his flat picking style from Doc and we
all know where that went. Straight from Donovan to John Lennon and at
least four songs on the White Album. nv
Another
one in a blues vein here. Doc had seven Grammys under his belt, the
Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement award, and Bill Clinton gave
him the National Medal for the Arts, recognizing Doc's huge influence on
national heritage music. nv
The
Last Steam Engine Train with Doc, Chet and Leo Kottke somewhere in
there. Sometimes we lose an artist and it feels like the end times for a
genre. The old blues pickers are going and the old country pickers too.
Adios. nv
