The Dillards
You may think you've never heard or heard of the Dillards... but what about the Darlings? (If you watched 'The Andy Griffith Show' when you were a sprout, you heard THEM :)).
Here they are in Sheriff Taylor's parlor jamming with Andy himself. This would be around the time of their first release "Back Porch Bluegrass" in 1963.

The
Dillards' second album, "Live! Almost!" was released in 1964. This
album nearly succeeded in introducing bluegrass as a viable alternative
to the upscale folk audience that was gathering in such hip places as
Laurel Canyon and the Trou
bador at the
time. It is a song about a dog and....outhouses in winter. Some of us

in the Ozarks. Plenty of scorpions, timber rattlers, and outhouses to
go 'round. But man, the food tasted so much better. The veggies
actually had flavor. The eggs. The milk. The soy
products........wahoo.

Dang! What could have possibly distracted me from the further discussion of the Dillards!? Hope you enjoy this one...

Then...
1968 introduced the world to a new Dillards. A bit slowed down and
introspective. The Dillards, like everyone, were affected by all that
was going on around them. They released Wheatstraw Suite that year.
It's a great track as t
his song, "She
Sang Hymns Out of Tune" will attest. For some reason, I can't help but
feel that The Guess Who's 'Wheatfield Soul' album was a bit of a nod and
a tip of the hat to the boys.
